BOOK REVIEW: ALIF BY UMERA AHMED

BOOK REVIEW: ALIF BY UMERA AHMED

Umera Ahmed's novel Alif is about a fictional family. This novel investigates the relationship between spirituality and fiction. Alif is a treat to read for those who have read or are familiar with Umera Ahmed's work, such as Aab e Hayat and Peer E Kamil. It was a pleasant surprise for both Umera Ahmed fans and non-fans.

Umera Ahmed is a well-known Urdu fiction novelist and screenwriter of her generation.

Umera Ahmed has done an excellent job in writing this novel, intertwining spirituality, religion, and glamour. And as the story progresses, it is a brilliant work of art. The author is well-known for infusing her writing with a spiritual undertone. 'Alif' follows in the footsteps of her previous two novels, 'Aab e Hayat' and 'Peer Kaamil.' The novel is written entirely in Urdu. The author has beautifully penned a world of spirituality that we will all enjoy exploring. The six main characters in this story are Qalb e Momin, Momina Sultan, Husn Jahan, Taha - Abdul Aala, Abdul Aala, and Sultan. This story is intricately linked. Taha is Abdul Aala's son, andHusn Jahan was his wife. Husn Jahan and Taha-Abdul Aala's son is Qalb-e-Momin. Sultan's daughter is Momina. Alif is about how these characters are connected to one another and how they help each other spiritually and materially to find and recognise their relationship with Allah. 'Alif ek seedhi lakeer hai, Jiskay ek sirray pai Allah hai aur doosray sirray pai insaan,' says Abdul Aala in one of the lines/dialogues

So, basically, the entire story is about Allah's relationship with humans, with a twist of complex stories between the characters.

This is a lovely piece of literature. It was so heartwarming to be able to imagine those characters in my imagination while reading this book. And because the book is written in Urdu, it is very easy to connect with the characters and the story's theme. This is the story of the journey from 'Ishq-e-Majazi' to 'Ishq-e-Haqeeqi,' from'materialistic desires' to'spirituality.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this novel. It is beautifully written and the words and vocabulary are easy to understand. The characters are well defined, and I instantly fell in love with them. The story is full of unexpected twists and emotional moments that made me cry. Every character has been treated fairly by the author. This novel has already been adapted into a drama with the same name
